Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are rapidly closing this school year with grade four field trip to the big island, final awards assembly and culminating activities for our grade six students.

This school year has been challenging for all our school community partnerships and associations. In reflection of this past year we have continued to accomplish our academic goals and continue to make progress in student achievement. We began school in August with Junior Kindergarten Night, Kindergarten K.A.M.P, Open House and parent teacher conferences. With the economic down turn we faced the first school furlough days in October. With the completion of our academic plan we continued to decrease field trips, whole school assemblies, May Day, HSA Fun Day, and other school wide activities to accommodate more classroom instructional time. In March we went through the accreditation process with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. This is an internal review process of reflection and self study of standards based curriculum and instruction, quality student support and continuous school improvement. In April we began HSA testing to continue to meet our Adequate Yearly Progress goals. I wish to thank all of our faculty and staff for their hard work in completing the accreditation process. We await the commissioners final response as to how many years our school will be accredited. I wish to acknowledge and thank our PTA president, Mrs. Cindi Larson and School Community Council chairperson, Mr. Curtis Leyshon for their continued service and support to our school.

Next school year, the first day of school is Monday, August 2 for students in grades 1 through grades 6. The Kolea Kamp for incoming junior kindergarten and kindergarten studenst is an orientation program to our school is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28. Junior kindergarten and kindergarten teachers will begin to assess junior kindergarten and kindergarten students on July 29 - 30. Parents/guardians will be notified as to when to bring their child to school for assessment and half day orientation. Junior kindergarten and kindergarten students first full day of school is Friday, August 13.

Welcome aboard new School Community Council members Mrs. Christine DeLuca and Mrs. Angie Johnson. The new teacher representative is grade 1 teacher Mrs. Jennifer Riddick. We welcome back to the Special Education department Mrs. Elena Tackett and Mrs. Janice Clements.
